The Voice of the Lord

AThe voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars, yes, the LORD splinters the cedars of Lebanon. He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth, and strips the forests bare; and in His temple everyone says, >Glory!=@ (Psalm 29:4-9).

The voice of the Lord is powerful! Some have heard it as the roar of mighty waters; others as a still small voice. But when He speaks all of creation is affected. The earth and all of creation was brought into being when He spoke. He said, >Let there be light!= and light was brought into being that exists to this present day. With His voice God calls things into being out of nothing. ABy faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible@ (Hebrews 11:3). Paul tells us that He calls things that are not as though they were. And when He speaks they become what He desires. The voice of the Lord is powerful!

The Psalmist proclaims, AFor He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast@ (Psalm 33:9). When God speaks it is finished. When He commands, it is established. Whatever God says, it shall be. He has the final say in all things and whatever He says overrides all other things. Men and nations may fight and war, but when the Lord speaks they melt before Him. AThe nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted@ (Psalm 46:6). With a word from His lips the course of history is changed. All things are brought into line with the plans of the Author and Finisher of our faith. Nothing can go to the right or the left. The voice of the Lord is powerful!

At the sound of His voice mountains shake and waters flee, demons tremble and Hell is brought into an uproar. When God speaks, we are healed. With a word we are set free. His voice transforms our very being. With a shout from heaven we shall all be changed in the twinkling of an eye. He says, >Come up here,= and in a moment of time we are transported into His presence. He speaks to the mountains and they are removed from our sight. He speaks to the seas and they are parted before us. With His powerful word we are sustained and with His voice He directs our every circumstance. AThe Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word@ (Hebrews 1:3). The voice of the Lord is powerful!

And to us He says, ABe silent, all flesh, before the LORD, for He is aroused from His holy habitation!@ (Zechariah 2:13). Come aside and be still before the Lord, for I will speak and it will be done; I will command and it will be established. Why do you fret and worry? Why are you anxious and doubting? Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in all the earth! Come apart and be still before Me. Position yourself to hear for I will surely speak. Separate yourselves from the noise of the throngs and come into the quiet outside the camp. Quiet your soul before Me and open your spirit unto Me. Give entrance to My word and it shall produce light, even to the simple. Give place to My voice and it will effect My will. Seek My voice and it will alight upon you as the dew. I will send forth My word and heal you. I will proclaim My liberty and you shall be set free. I shall speak and you will have peace. I will go before you and you shall hear My word behind you saying, >This is the way, walk ye in it.= I will lead you through the turmoil and deliver you through the flames of fire. And you shall know that the Lord your God has spoken. I say again, be silent before Me. Seek My voice in the stillness. Open your heart to hear and I will surely speak. My voice is powerful, it will not fail.
